Meet The Guy Who Takes Those Great Field Photos

Kevin Kohli grew up just outside Houston, meaning he’s got the kind of heat tolerance most humans only develop after a decade in a sauna. After a few years back home, he and his wife are now packing up and making the great migration north to Connecticut, because nothing says “holiday spirit” like moving the day after Christmas.

At home, Kevin and his wife live with four dogs, all of whom operate on the emotional spectrum between “chaotic” and “can’t-stay-mad-at-them.” When he’s not wrangling canines, he’s usually reading or spending time with family and friends, basically doing wholesome activities that disguise the fact he used to run a beekeeping company. Yes, for real.

How He Ended Up at Gridware

After deciding to close down his beekeeping business ahead of the big out-of-state move, a former colleague told him about Gridware and convinced him to apply. And honestly? Beekeeping is probably the perfect training for dealing with swarms of questions from linemen, property owners, and curious neighbors.

Now he’s a Field Operations Specialist, which basically means: boots on, hardhat on, high-vis on, and off to meet a new crew of linemen in a new part of the country before most people’s alarms have even thought about going off.

A Day in the Life

Kevin wakes up somewhere new just about every morning. He meets the local crews, introduces them to Gridware and the GridScopes, answers every question under the sun, then sets off to hike across urban jungles, cow pastures, mountains, rural nowhere—you name it. If there’s terrain, he’ll cross it. If there’s a dog on the property, he’ll absolutely say hi. Priorities.

What Keeps Him Going

Sure, he loves the hiking, he’s spent his entire working life outdoors and wouldn’t have it any other way. But his real favorite part? The people.

He spends long days with linemen from all over the country and has talked to enough property owners to qualify as an honorary small-town mayor. Every day brings a new story, a new handshake, and ideally, a new dog to pet.

What He Hopes to Accomplish

Kevin knows firsthand what it’s like when the power goes out. Houston is the last place you want to be when the power gos out in August. He remembers the long, sweaty stretches after hurricanes knocked out the grid, and he wants to make sure fewer people have to live through that. If his work helps get someone’s AC running again faster or makes linemen’s jobs safer and easier, he calls that a win.

What People Don’t Expect

He’s secretly (or not-so-secretly now) a youth sports coach, recently leading a 9–10 year-old lacrosse team. Turns out teaching kids how to chuck a ball with a giant stick is one of the most rewarding things he’s done.

Finally, if you've ever seen the Gridware Photo of the Week Posts on LinkedIn and Instagram then you'll have seen Kevin's other secret superpower.
